CENTRED ON JESUS FOCUSED ON PEOPLE

The reason behind us getting young men involved with sport is not the sport itself but the growth of the individual and team. For example:

  • Create sense of community and loyalty.
  • Teaches them the value of teamwork.
  • Respect for one another.
  • Learning the value of committing to something other than themselves.
  • Creating a sense of achievement so that each person can do more than they can expect by themselves.
  • Teaches them to make better choices.
  • Goal setting.
  • Improves their conflict resolution skills as well as problem solving skills.
  • Boost’s self-esteem.
  • Improves leadership skills.
  • Improves health and well-being.

As the above points emphasis, sport is a wonderful way to improve the lives of those that are struggling with problems and situations.  But somewhat uniquely we have a Pastor for each sport, providing pastoral care for those involved.  Mentors are assigned to all players. Each sport has a manager from within the Ministry team. We have taken the opportunity for sport to allow personal and team growth, but it is also a valuable opportunity for these young men to deal with their troubles and grow through a highly-supportive environment.

One area Chains to Life Ministries feels compelled to concentrate on is the evident dangers of domestic violence. All sports within the Ministry will be a platform to fight domestic violence that is sadly very prevalent in Vanuatu.

Over and above this, we will be teaching these young men to be true men of God, through fellowship and Bible studies.

Golf:

At the end of 2021 we were able to send 14 young men to the Port Vila Golf Club to experience the game of Golf. From March 2022 5 young men will enter a 3-month program at the Golf club to learn the game under the tuition of the resident coach.

This initiative has been kindly sponsored by The Carbine Club of Vanuatu.
