CENTERED ON JESUS FOCUSED ON PEOPLE

In early March, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to the United States for two weeks—a trip that turned out to be one of the most encouraging and spiritually enriching experiences of my life and ministry.
From the moment I landed, it was clear that God had orchestrated every detail. This trip wasn’t just about travel—it was about sharpening the vision, strengthening partnerships, and receiving the kind of spiritual encouragement that fuels long-term ministry on the mission field.
Three Days of the Word in Los Angeles
The first stop was Los Angeles, where I attended a pastors' conference for three days. From the first session to the last, the Word of God was preached faithfully and boldly. My heart was stirred, my mind was challenged, and I walked away with a deeper hunger for the truth and a renewed commitment to preaching it clearly—both in the prison and in the communities we serve.
I also had the blessing of making new friends and setting up key connections, which we believe will be a great help to Chains to Life Ministries in the months and years ahead. These connections weren’t just about resources—they were about people who care, pray, and want to see the Gospel go forward in Vanuatu.
A Fruitful Week in Phoenix, Arizona
From LA, I travelled to Phoenix, Arizona, where I spent six amazing days at Redeemer Bible Church—our sending church and home of many faithful saints who’ve walked with us in prayer and support for years.
I was able to attend all five weekend services, meeting and connecting with the congregation, sharing stories from the mission field, and being warmly welcomed by brothers and sisters who genuinely love what God is doing in Vanuatu.
But the most impactful part of the week came through time with the pastors and leaders of Redeemer. I was able to sit with men who have walked the road of ministry faithfully for many years—men who poured into me with wisdom, counsel, and care.
One unforgettable evening was spent at the Redeemer Training Center, where I met with men in their second year of biblical leadership training. These are men learning how to become true, authentic men of God, equipped to lead well, love well, and serve the church faithfully. Watching their humility and hunger for the Word reminded me why leadership development is so important in the ministry back home.
Prepared for What’s Next
This trip wasn’t just refreshing—it was strategic preparation for what God is doing next in Port Vila, especially as we take steps toward planting a new church. With spiritual backing, biblical training, and continued guidance from these pastors, we are now moving forward with confidence—not in ourselves, but in the Lord who calls and equips.
A Heartfelt Thank You
There are many people I want to thank for making this trip possible:
Chuck Holmes, founder of Mt. Nebo Prison Ministry, who not only made this trip happen but also hosted me with such kindness and generosity. Chuck, your heart for the lost and your love for fellow laborers in the Gospel is a gift to many—including me.
Pastor Kyle Swanson, my pastor, mentor, and friend—thank you for walking with me through every step of this trip, for keeping things organized, for the deep conversations, and for teaching me what pastoral care truly looks like. Your wisdom and example will shape how I serve others moving forward.
And to everyone who prayed, gave, or made time in your busy schedules to talk with me—thank you. Your investment into my life and ministry is already bearing fruit, and I pray God blesses you richly for it.
We return to the field strengthened, encouraged, and ready for the work ahead. The Gospel must go forward, and with your partnership, it will.
To God be all the glory,
Bobby Smith
